Natural Remedies For Your Hot Flashes

Are you wondering if there is anything you can do to reduce the frequency and intensity of hot flashes associated with menopause and peri-menopause? Cheer up – natural relief is on the way – and it is not as difficult as you may think!

There is a direct link between our decreasing levels of Estrogen during peri-menopause and menopause, and hot flashes. As our Estrogen depletes, that triggers our brains to release other hormones which affect our body's thermostat. Lovely ?! If you are searching for natural relief, there are a few things you can do. Firstly, you want to check with your doctor to make sure you're getting enough Vitamin E. Recent studies have shown that women who increase their levels of Vitamin E during menopause have fewer and less intense hot flashes. I recommend at least 200 IU of Vitamin E taken twice daily. Some of us benefit greatly from 400 IU twice a day, but check with your OB / GYN because you need to be careful about medication interactions, whether or not we can tolerate 400 IU, and any other conditions you may have. I also recommend purchasing the all natural, mixed tocopherol form of Vitamin E because it has been shown to be more potent (d-alpha not dl-alpha on the label, you can remember by thinking dl is do not like!). Vitamin E is a very important, fat soluble anti-oxidant that not only reduces the intensity of your hot flashes, and reduces your risk for heart disease, but science has shown that it can also improve the health of your skin and protect against sun related free radical damage that leads to wrinkles and other skin changes! Now that is truly multi-tasking at its finest.

I believe that it is just as important to get as much of our daily intake of vitamins from food as possible so here is a list of foods that contain Vitamin E: Avocados, sunflower seeds, almonds, almond butter, wheat germ oil and safflower oil . Adding some of these into your diet in addition to your supplementation will increase your levels of Vitamin E.

And make sure you breathe deeply as often as you think about it during your day because circulating fresh, oxygenated blood through your body can also help reduce hot flashes and make you feel refreshed and energized.
