Create Your Own Beauty Regimen to Fight Aging

Everyone’s skin is different and the signs of aging can present themselves in various ways.  Developing your own custom routine will allow you to target the problems that plague you specifically and avoid treatments that may be unnecessary for your type of skin.

Face Washing Strategies

For most people, washing your face twice a day is sufficient.  Washing too much can dry out your skin and not enough could leave your skin oily, dirty, and filled with impurities.  Wash once in the morning and once before bed with a gentle, alcohol free cleanser to ensure your face retains its moisture.  Avoid washing with hot water as this will also dry out your skin, so stick to cool and lukewarm temperatures.  Exfoliating at least once a week will clear away dead skin and will stimulate the flow of blood and oxygen to your skin.

Choosing a Lotion

Your choice of lotion is where your skin type plays a larger part.  For naturally dry or oily skin, pick a cream that is tailored to those traits.  Dry skin is more prone to developing wrinkles, so moisturize in the morning before you apply your makeup and at night before you go to bed.  Always be sure to apply your face creams to clean skin to avoid trapping any unwanted dirt or oils in your pores.

When choosing a cream be sure that you understand how it’s ingredients are supposed to work.  Some companies fill their labels up with names of ingredients which have no affect on moisturizing your face or repairing lines and wrinkles.  With a little research and reading a few product reviews you can give yourself a better idea of which products truly work and which ones to avoid.

Consider Your Nutrition

As part of your beauty routine, consider your diet.  Unhealthy foods can easily show up on your skin, so cut out the bad stuff and give your skin and body the proper nutrition it needs to grow and heal.  Foods such as berries, fish, nuts, and beans which contain antioxidants or Omega-3 fatty acids will help to give you smooth, firm, and younger looking skin.  And most important of all, drink plenty of water to give your skin a hydrated, supple look and feel.

Sleep and Exercise

An excellent beauty regimen shouldn’t be limited to lotions, creams, and face masks.  Getting regular exercise allows blood, oxygen, and nutrients to flow more easily to your skin and help it heal and repair itself.  Getting proper sleep and rest also helps your skin rejuvenate and will leave you looking much more refreshed, relaxed, and care free.

Diminishing the Appearance of Wrinkles and Signs of Age

A large part of the battle for youth is in the prevention of wrinkles and fine lines.  So if you’re already showing the signs of aging, is it too late to ever look young again?  Of course not, you can repair and rejuvenate while hiding the wrinkles and blemishes you already have.

Concealing Existing Wrinkles

Using a wrinkle concealer or lotion product can help to fill in the lines that have already formed across your face.  Products that contain ingredients which help to prevent future wrinkles and repair the existing ones should be your first choice.  Choose a cream that has reflective properties in order to reduce the effects of shadows in the deeper lines and crevices.

Get Some Rest

You may look in the mirror and feel like you just started looking 10 years older one day.  Have you made sure you’re getting enough rest and relaxation?  Not getting enough sleep will prevent your skin from repairing itself and becoming rejuvenated.  Too much stress can present itself as sullen cheeks, bags under the eyes, and a look of sagging skin which can all make you look drastically older.  Take some time for yourself if you’re worn out and get a little pampering in.  You’ll be surprised at the physical affects a light heart and rested mind can have on your appearance.

The Ins and Outs of Vitamins and Supplements

Whether applying a vitamin E rich cream on your face or eating some berries loaded with antioxidants, the substances you absorb into your body will play a major role in the appearance of your skin.  Stay hydrated with a proper diet to keep your skin looking full and healthy.  What can’t be added to your body through diet can be added to your skin in the form of masks and creams.  For both food and beauty products, be sure to stick to natural ingredients and avoid products that could contain chemicals and toxins which will only do more harm.

Introducing healthy factors such as water, rest, and exercise while avoiding the dangerous ones like UV rays and smoking will not only prevent future lines and wrinkles, it will diminish the appearance of existing ones while your skin repairs itself.  Cosmetic surgery and botox is an option you may consider as well, but keep in mind that you may not always get the results you’re looking for or the effects of that procedure may not always last.  Exhausting all of your natural options first will generally be best for your skin in the long run.

Skin Treatments That Will Fight the Effects of Aging

In the search for the fountain of youth, many different skin treatments have been tried and experimented with.  Some things work for certain people while different techniques work for others.  Also, not everyone has the same skin types or signs of aging as each other.  There are many tips and treatments out there you can try, but to save yourself some time, energy, and money, do some research first to make sure you’re using something that’s been proven to work.

Creams and Lotions

Possibly one of the most confusing aspects of anti-aging is walking into the skin cream section for the first time and trying to decipher what all the different ingredients are and what they’re supposed to do.  Some creams will sell themselves pretty convincingly on the package, but their ingredients may not be able to do what they promise.  Creams that contain collagen may not give you the desired affect as your skin cannot absorb the collagen molecules.  However, a cream that promotes collagen and elastin production will help your skin manufacture the components it needs to stay young and supple.

Dietary Supplements

As with the ingredients in face creams, if your body can’t absorb a mineral or vitamin, it’s no use to you as a supplement.   Make sure you understand how any minerals or vitamins you intend to take are supposed to work.  Adding antioxidants to your diet or taking them a supplement is a great way to keep your skin healthy and fight the free radicals you are exposed to from the environment.  Sticking to natural or organic supplements will ensure that you aren’t adding any extra chemicals or toxins into your system which could cause more harm to your skin.

Relaxation and Pampering

A rested face tends to have more of a glow.  Get plenty of sleep to allow your skin and body to repair itself.  Using techniques to deal with stress will also have a visible effect on wrinkles, lines, and blemishes.  Feeling tense or worn out all day can add years to your face, so make sure you take some time for yourself to unwind and reduce the amount of frowns and furrowed brows you have throughout the day.

Surgery and Botox

As a last resort, some people may choose to use plastics surgery or botox injections to reverse the effects of aging.  If you’re planning on taking this route, make sure to educate yourself on the procedure and be sure of your reasons for undergoing the more drastic measures of surgery.  Keep in mind that you may not always get the results you want and that the effects of botox will wear off within about six months.  If you decide to go ahead with a surgical procedure, take care of your face in the future to prevent signs of additional aging before they start.
