Did not They Make Spam Illegal?

In December of 2003, President Bush signed into law the "Can Spam" bill. This was to be the first national standard for bulk unsolicited commercial e-mails. Approved by the Senate 97-0, the bill prohibited senders of unsolicited commercial e-mail from using false return addresses to disguise their identity, other wise known as spoofing, Aside form unwanted spam, it also prohibited the use of misleading subject lines. This bill bought on what is know known as the 'double opt-in'. When requesting information on the Internet, or subscribing to a newsletter, you are asking to confirm your subscription. From that point on, each email you receive from them are required to include and opt-out mechanism. The legislation also prohibits senders from harvesting addresses off Web sites. Those that violate this spam law will be brought up on misdemeanor charges and subject to up to one year in jail.

So why is it still such a problem? There are always those that will find away around the system. For starters, it is difficult to track the origin of the spammer. They show up every day in your and my email box with throw away identities. It takes no time at all to create a bogus Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail email address … use it for a week and drop it. Move onto the next bogus address and start over.

Another reason is that the average computer user will purchase a anti spam program and think it will solve all problems. These are the same people that purchase an anti virus program and not keep it updated. While a program such as SpamBlocker and Polesoft can detect today's spam, Humans can learn the algorithm used by these programs. A common mis belief is that anti spam programs can 'learn' and grow. These programs will provide updates and new versions, but it takes YOUR diligence to keep on top of it.

White listing and black listing can help control who you do and do not get emails from. But as an end user, you could take things one step further by reporting it. This is one of the methods that I like the best. If you receive more spam emails, create an account at There you can report obvious spam mail and they will send the report to the hosting company of the email used by the spammer. Now the hosting company's are obligated to take action by banning the account or even pressing charges.

The Difference Between Digital Books and Ebooks

Most people today, don’t know the difference between a digital book and an ebook. In fact, many people think they are one and the same. They couldn’t be farther from the truth. They are entirely different species of the same animal.

Digital books

Digital books, sometimes also called electronic books or PDF books, are scanned, digital facsimiles of standard printed, published books. You can think of them as enhanced copies of the actual hard or paperback books we have come to know and love.

When we are talking about the digital version of newer publications, they are pretty much identical to the original. When talking about old or even ancient publication, they are much better than any original you would find on the shelf of your local library. Since they are facsimiles of the original printing, this really increases quality and helps overcome the problems of many older books, such as yellowed pages, stains, see-through or onion skin type paper, colored paper, brown inks, etc. These are scanned pages, not ‘copied’ pages, and the quality of print truly represents a better quality than the print of the original book.

The great majority of digital books come in PDF format, though Amazon offers a Kindle edition, Mobipocket offers the MOBI version, then there is the plain TEXT format, as well as many others.

Digital books are usually far less expensive than their hard or paperback counterparts, and there are hardly ever shipping costs, unless they are delivered on a CD (Compact Disk).


Ebooks are digital books too, but they were designed and written for the internet. Many, if not most ebooks were never officially “published” at all, unless you count posting something on the internet as publishing.

Most ebooks were meant to be written quickly, with little or no expenses except for possibly distribution. The majority are short, almost always less than 100 pages, usually under 50 pages. Some ebooks are literally slapped together in a matter of hours. Often they are little more than several short reports combined together.

Many ebooks are self-help books, or manuals of some kind, though there are some eBook works of history and fiction to be found if you look for them. More often than not, they have little or no literary value, their intentions being the distribution of facts, instructions and/or ideas.

Sometimes you may come across the eBook version of a hard or soft cover book. It will even be called the “ebook version” of whatever book. But if you look closer, you will find that this eBook version is almost always far fewer pages than the original. You may as well call the “ebook version” the “condensed version” of the book.

Though you will find many ebooks in PDF format, much like digital books, but many come as various generic interactive applications. But don’t let the initial attraction of interaction fool you. Even if this sounds like high tech education at first, you will find that there is not much to the promise of interaction. It just disguises the fact that these books are short, technically no more than a few pages, with little to no real practical, and even less academic value.

Last but not least, ebooks are often free or cheap, though you will occasionally find some specialty instruction “programs” costing hundred of dollars.


Technically, ebooks are digital books, though practically there is a big difference. Personally, I usually prefer a digital book to its eBook cousin.

Paleo Diet: What Is It?

Ever since this diet was launched, the question "what is the paleo diet" never ceased to be asked. So if someone asked you "what is the paleo diet?" – the answer would be: paleo diet is short for Paleolithic diet which is also known as the caveman diet. A short introduction to the paleo diet is simply that it is a diet that is based on animal nutrition established during the time of the cavemen. It is a diet so appropriate in a biological sense that it is quite astounding.

The paleolithic diet is not merely a diet; it is a lifestyle that gives emphasis to how our cavemen of ancients lived and ate. In the past, our ancestors ate foods that were easy to hunt or the foods they could easily find in their location. So, the next question would be: what exactly is paleo diet of today?

If you are not getting a clear, total understanding of this so-called scavenger diet, then this article is perfect for you to read. Basically, it is about eating what you want – any food that you want – with the only restriction that it has to be in the Paleo food list. And what are the foods belonging to this paleo food list any way?

Meat, fish, chicken, fruits and vegetables belong in the paleo foods list, but those that do not belong are legumes, dairy, dairy products and grains. Salt and sugar are also not in this scavenger diet because our ancestors did not have the luxury of having seasonings then in their foods. Basically, they just ate whatever animal they could kill and shared it with leafy greens.

The only liquids that are accepted in the paleolithic diet are water or coconut water. And in this diet, you are only required to drink water when you are thirsty the same way that you can only eat when you are hungry. Organic green tea is also acceptable since it is less processed and there's less sugar in it. You are not required to eat at a set time because that's not how our cavemen brothers lived in the past. They did not live to eat at all – they ate to live.

The next question to be asked is: who are the followers of this diet?

Those people who are allergic to dairy and athletes are among the many who are avid paleo dieters. And yes, those people who want to avoid "foreign proteins" at all cost. Those who are also trying to avoid cardiovascular diseases, asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes are following the diet.

There are so many books and internet sites that are talking more and more about the paleo diet . When you have the chance to read up, definitely do, do not stop yourself from learning about the many wonderful benefits this diet can bring to you and your life.

Perfumes, fragrances, or scents are all part of our daily lives, often without us even knowing it. The definition of natural perfumery differs depending on the sensitivity, imagination, and enthusiast. Making your own cologne seems like the quality in high-class, romantic contrives. Nude Meditation and You

If you have read my post Beginners Guide To Basic Meditation and I hope that you have, you will recall I promised a follow-up post about meditating in the nude and how it wasn’t as easy as meditating while clothed. Meditation in the nude is a freeing, liberating experience that if done with the right mindset, allows you a far greater sense of being connected to the world around you and a strengthened sense of self. You can find many, many things to meditate on while meditating in the nude. The feel of the air on your skin, the sensation of the material you are sitting on, the coolness (or warmth) of the air and more. All of those things will help you gain a better insight and understanding about your own body.

The largest part of the problem is that many people are not comfortable nude. Whatever the underlying reasons, they can’t seem to feel completely relaxed if they are nude. Feelings of vulnerability and shame overpower their attempts to clear their mind and focus on their own body and their responses to their environment. Although difficult, those feelings are a perfect opportunity to test out your growing mastery of your own thoughts as you learn to relax and enjoy the moment.

The goal of meditating in the nude is exactly the same as the thoughts expressed in my beginners guide to basic meditation. To master your runaway thoughts, calm your mind and body and gain a deeper introspection into whatever subject you are meditating upon. As I stated previously, meditating in the nude presents another set of thought challenges to overcome, but they can be overcome with a little perseverance and practice.

You should have a private area for your foray into nude meditation where you can be assured that you will not be disturbed. Once you can satisfy your mind about this by a locked door or being alone in your house or apartment, then you will find it a lot easier to relax and let go of the nervousness of being discovered in the nude. Aside from being barged in on while nude is the nerve-wracking thought of having to explain why you are sitting in the middle of the floor naked. You have to diminish or dismiss those fears and thoughts in order to proceed.

Admittedly if you are not used to doing much more than shower in the nude it will be a little strange feeling to disrobe and seat yourself in preparation for meditation. That is actually a good thing. You should embrace the feelings and thoughts and use them in your meditation. Perhaps you can gain a deeper understanding of the feelings you are experiencing by giving them some very focused meditative thought. Which is the whole reason you are doing this to begin with. To gain insight and understanding of your mind and your body.

Having seated yourself in a comfortable position and with your back straight, begin by focusing on your breathing. Deep, slow and steady breathing in and out as you concentrate on the air entering and leaving your lungs. Concentrate solely on your breathing and dismiss all the stray thoughts that are probably screaming for attention in your mind. Focus entirely on your breathing until you have relaxed and gotten all other thoughts and feelings firmly under control.

Then, with that achieved you can find interesting things to meditate on about your own body and your thoughts and feelings about it. Concentrate on the goosebumps you might have, the sensation of air moving over your normally clothed and hidden back, the way your arms feel against the skin of your thighs if you happen to be sitting that way. You can start at your toes and slowly work your way up to the top of your head meditating on each body part and sensation in turn. The goal is to become more aware of your body, more in tune with its reactions to and interactions with the environment.

Once you have achieved a state of total calm and centered yourself, you should feel free and yet deeply connected to your environment. When that happens it is an excellent time to turn those meditations on your hair and skin and sensations inward and meditate on your deeper feelings and thoughts. That is the point to meditating in the nude. To feel completely free and yet as one with the world. To have an expanded consciousness liberated from all thoughts of physical things while you gain deeper understanding and insights into yourself and thoughts.

It actually is quite wonderful once you master your own feelings about being nude in what is not normally a situation for nudity. You can meditate in the nude with a partner, but that brings a new set of emotional challenges to the fore and it isn’t something you should try until you are completely comfortable and calm in your own skin. Unless of course you are already completely comfortable being nude around your partner already. Still, you would be surprised I think by what thoughts can interrupt you when you place yourself in that situation.

Nude meditation is not meant to be erotic. It is meant to be a way to gain deeper understanding of yourself and your mind. Although an incredibly sensual experience, you won’t get very far with mastering your thoughts if you go into it with thoughts of it becoming an erotic experience. I think it is something that everyone should attempt, although it is not something for everyone. It can be very good for you if you can master your own thoughts and feelings before, during and after.
