One of the unpleasantries of being pregnant is often the nausea that can come in the first three months and last for that long. For me, oh, so many years ago that was a good birth control measure. Three times was enough. But now that I’m older and wiser and my three children are parents themselves, the study of natural medicine has come into my experience and what I wouldn’t have given then for the knowledge I have today.
Essential oils come to mind, the most glorious gift from God, and they are all around us to be used for everything. Amazing! Of course quality is most important and there is only one company making organic therapeutic grade essential oils in America today, Young Living Essential Oils.
Since our subject today is nausea during pregnancy (or any other time actually) we can
turn to the essential oil of peppermint, Mentha piperita, which has medical properties of being anti-inflammatory, antitumoral, antibacterial, antiviral (and so much more) and it is used for everything from arthritis to scoliosis, with nausea being there in the alphabetical middle. As a fragrant influence, it is purifying and stimulating to the conscious mind. The peppermint plant may be found in North America, Great Britain and the Mediterranean area. To extract the oil it is steam distilled from leaves and stems.
In anecdotal stories it is suggested that a vitamin and mineral deficiency can exacerbate the nausea in pregnancy. The peppermint oil may be safely used by dropping one drop on your tongue (be careful, this stuff is strong – one drop is equal to 23 cups of peppermint tea). If that makes your eyes water, you can deeply breathe in the oil, you can dilute one drop into several drops of a carrier oil and apply over tummy, use your imagination and intuition.
